Are you playing life too safely?

My Uncle Al gave me a card with an impactful quote before I was about to embark on my very first solo overseas journey at the ripe old age of 17.

“A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for” John Shedd.

This quote has stayed with me as a guiding compass as I make decisions in my day to day life; as well as those big life decisions, the ones that can make you feel excited and sick at the same time. Always having that quote in the back of my mind helps me decide if I’m being too safe and cautious, or if I’m shaking things up, putting myself out there and taking leaps of faith that will get me closer to my goals. I know that by doing the latter I allow myself to continue to learn, grow, develop and evolve – things that keep me progressing towards success.

Be brave. Be present and engaged in your life. Take risks. Know that the limits that surround you are the ones you give yourself. Stop standing still.

Are you playing life too safely? Is your ship nicely tied up to the harbor or have you picked up anchor and embarked on your journey in open waters? Comment below.
